August 11, 1931 ~ August 22, 2024
Jerry Howard Burnett was born on August 11, 1931, and passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at 93. He attended and graduated from Tulare Union High School before earning a degree in Commerce and Finance from Occidental College. Jerry married his college sweetheart, Dorthey (Dottie), on July 10, 1954. After serving overseas for 2 1/2 years with the US Army, they settled in Sierra Madre, California.
Jerry had a successful career in financial management, starting as a Controller at Royal Industries. He later served on the Financial Auditing Team, contributing his expertise to the aerospace and defense sectors. Jerry and Dottie hosted five separate foreign exchange students, on returning to become an American citizen and who have stayed very close to the family (like a 3rd son). Jerry was very active in community service, dedicating years to the Sierra Madre Kiwanis and supporting the Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre. He was also a 35-year member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.
He and Dotties were honored by Occidental College in 2019 for their enduring commitment to education, alumni involvement, and dedication to Occidental.
An avid traveler, Jerry and Dottie explored numerous countries, including multiple RV adventures across the United States and Canada. They loved tennis and attending professional tournaments. Jerry is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy (Dottie), and his two sons, Robert ( Rosemary) and Brain (Kay). He has three granddaughters, Amanda (Manny), Paige, and Karina, and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Owen. He is also survived by the “3rd son,” exchange student Robin Bartolo, and his wife, Jenni.
Jerry will be deeply missed for his spirit, dedication to family, and passion for lifelong learning and adventure. Instead of sending flowers, we kindly ask that you make a memorial donation in his name to an organization that is significant to you.
